Frequently asked questions

Quick answers for workers, employers, and folks new to the platform.

For Workers

How much does it cost to use FindShifts as a worker?

Nothing. FindShifts is free for workers. There are no signup fees, no monthly fees, no fees deducted from your pay.

How fast do I get paid?

Within 24 hours after your shift is approved by the employer. Direct deposit to the bank account you set up during onboarding.

What if I cancel a shift?

You can cancel up to 24 hours before a shift with no penalty. Last-minute cancellations affect your reliability rating, which employers see.

Do I need a car or special license?

Depends on the shift. Most shifts need none. Delivery shifts require a valid driver's license and insured vehicle. Each posting lists what's required.

Am I an employee or contractor?

You're an independent contractor. You set your hours, choose your shifts, and receive a 1099. Some employers use FindShifts to recruit for full-time W-2 roles separately.

How are ratings used?

After each shift, the employer rates your punctuality, professionalism, and skill. Workers with higher ratings get first access to better-paying shifts and permanent role offers.

For Employers

What does FindShifts cost?

Flat 5% application fee per filled shift. No setup fees, no monthly minimums, no per-seat charges. You only pay when a worker shows up and you approve their hours.

How quickly can I fill a shift?

Most shifts in active categories (Food & Beverage, Retail, Warehousing) fill within 45 minutes of posting. You'll usually see qualified applicants within the first 5-10 minutes.

Are workers vetted?

Yes. Every worker completes identity verification, background check (where legal), and bank verification before they can apply to a shift. You also see their past employer ratings.

How do payments work?

When you create a payroll batch, you fund it via card. We hold the funds, then disburse to workers' Stripe Connect accounts within 24 hours of approval. You get a single weekly invoice for tax purposes.

Can I convert a temp worker to a permanent hire?

Yes. After someone works a few shifts for you, you can offer them a permanent W-2 role. We charge a flat conversion fee (no percentage-of-salary) — see the For Businesses → Permanent Workers page for details.

Do you handle taxes and worker comp?

We handle 1099 generation for workers automatically. We also carry the platform-level insurance coverage. Your business is the contractor's client, not their employer, so you don't pay payroll tax on shifts.

About the platform

Where does FindShifts operate?

Currently US-only. We're actively expanding city by city — see our Locations page for active markets.

How is FindShifts different from Instawork, Wonolo, or Shiftgig?

Three things: lower fees (flat 5%, not 25-30%), faster payouts (24 hours, not 2 weeks), and a direct path from gig work to permanent hire. We're building for fairness, not extraction.

What if there's a dispute over a shift?

Contact support within 48 hours of the shift. We review GPS clock-in data, photo verification, and messages. If the dispute is valid, FindShifts mediates — and if needed, we make the worker whole from our reserve fund while the dispute resolves.

Is my data secure?

Yes. We're a US-based company subject to CCPA and state-level privacy laws. We never sell worker or employer data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
